About my work
and I was first introduced to printmaking at 6th form college I was hooked straight away. I started with some simple screen printing techniques and by the time I had applied to Leeds Jacob Kramer College of art and design to do a years foundation course all I wanted to do was print.
I studied BA(Hons) Fine Art Printmaking at Loughborough University of Art and Design between 1999 and 2001.
Afterwards I went on to study a PGCE in teaching Art and Design at Leeds University - I taught for several years but began to create more and more of my own work at home.
I now work from my studio and have stopped full time teaching to concentrate on developing my own art work.
I enjoy all aspects of printmaking. I am fascinated by the process of working on a print from designing the different details to the exciting part of pulling back the paper to see how the print has turned out.
I am inspired by nature in particular plants and trees. I am also motivated by memory and place.
A big part of my process is drawing, I love the drawn line and if I'm not printing I am usually sat with a pencil and sketch book. Its really important for me to study the shapes and lines of any image I consider before I turn it into a print.
